One of Midlothian’s most beloved community events is back for 2026 and this year’s Danderhall & Newton Gala Day promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Shawfair Community Fund is proud to once again be supporting this wonderful celebration of community spirit.
The fun gets underway on Monday 18th May with a free Senior Citizens’ Party at Danderhall Miners Club from 12:15pm to 3pm, with refreshments and entertainment – no ticket required.
On Wednesday 20th May, primary school aged children can take part in a 5-a-side football tournament at the Community Hub, with two age categories (P1–P3 and P4–P7) and registration from 5pm.
Thursday 21st May sees Danderhall Has Talent take to the stage at Newton Parish Church Hall from 6pm – all ages are welcome.
Friday 22nd May brings a Children’s Party Night at Danderhall Miners Club from 6–8pm, a ticketed event at £5 per child with strictly limited numbers. Friday evening will also feature a best dressed houses competition, so it’s time to get the bunting out!
The main event takes place on Saturday 23rd May, with a community parade departing from Newton Parish Church Hall at 11:30am before the official opening of Gala Fun in the Park at 12 noon. Running from 12pm to 4pm, the park event includes wristband activities for all the family – inflatables, face painting, a petting zoo, photo booth, go-karts, glitter tattoos and character appearances. Wristbands are priced at £10 for ages 4 and over and £5 for under 3s. Live music will be provided by the City Centre Band, and a range of food vendors will be on site throughout the day.
