One of the most exciting commercial opportunities within the Shawfair masterplan is taking shape and progress on site is gathering real momentum.
Whitehills is a 20-acre allocated development site in the adopted Midlothian Local Development Plan, with Planning Permission in Principle already granted for a wide range of uses including office, light industrial, general industrial, storage and distribution, as well as Sui Generis uses such as home improvement showrooms, builders merchants and car showrooms. Its eastern boundary offers excellent visibility onto the A1 dual carriageway, while to the west it fronts Whitehill Road – already home to Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Jaguar Land Rover. Fort Kinnaird Retail Park, one of the UK’s largest with over 15 million visitors a year, sits right on the doorstep and the site is well served by public transport links including Newcraighall Park & Ride Train Station.
Despite a wet start to the year, the team has made solid progress since returning to site in January. Drainage works are now 90% complete, road construction is around 50% done and additional mineshaft capping is underway to allow the road to be finished in the coming weeks. The first 300 metres of water main and gas main have been installed, and the gabion wall is taking shape with the first baskets now in position.
We’ll continue to share updates as this landmark development moves closer to completion – watch this space.
