Thank you to all who attended the Shawfair recreation and amenity provision consultation events in June 2026 and who provided feedback there or online.
We have collated the responses from this consultation, and we have recognised that there is overwhelming support for more play facilities for all ages at Shawfair. The lack of facilities for older children and young people was repeatedly noted as a priority gap to be addressed. Alongside play equipment, popular suggestions included amenities like a pump track and skatepark for teenagers. Other suggestions included improvements to existing football pitches, MUGA and bowling greens, and a small number expressing support for allotments and community gardens.
Following on from this our next steps will be preparing the layout for the Valley Park based on the valuable feedback received.
We will present this as part of a further consultation event later this year.
In the meantime, we will work with Midlothian Council to agree a legal/planning route to ensure that the required developer contributions are aligned with the current and future needs of the community.
