We’re delighted to announce the latest round of funding from the Shawfair Community Fund, supporting four brilliant local causes that reflect everything we believe a thriving community should look like — connected, caring and full of life.
Chris’s House – Walk of Hope (Midlothian) 2026 – For the fourth year running, we’re proud to support the Walk of Hope, a powerful event raising awareness of mental health and suicide prevention. The route passes directly through the Shawfair masterplan, making this a cause that’s close to home in every sense. This year’s funding will keep walkers fuelled and hydrated throughout the day, covering breakfast rolls, energy bars and bottled water for around 350 participants. It’s a small gesture in the context of the incredible work Chris’s House does, but we’re honoured to play our part –Walk of Hope Midlothian 2026 (Eventbrite Page)
Danderhall & Newton Gala Day 2026 – The Gala Day is one of the highlights of the local calendar and we’re delighted to be sponsoring both the OAP Tea Party and the Kids’ Party this year. Community events like this are the heartbeat of a neighbourhood, and we look forward to seeing residents of all ages come together to celebrate. The event takes place on Saturday 23rd May 2026. Danderhall & District Lunch Club – For many of the elderly & vulnerable residents who attend the weekly Lunch Club at Danderhall Miners’ Club, it’s the one outing they look forward to each week, a chance to socialise, share a meal and feel part of something. We’re covering three months of transport costs to ensure that getting there is never a barrier, particularly for those with mobility challenges. Sometimes the most meaningful support is simply making sure people can attend. For more details visit – Danderhall & District Lunch Club (Facebook Page)
Cycling UK – Community Cycling Event- In partnership with Midlothian Council, Cycling UK has been working to promote active travel in and around Shawfair since June 2025. We’re supporting their upcoming winter events series, which includes practical workshops, cycle confidence sessions, learn-to-ride support and bike loans – all designed to help more residents experience the joy and freedom of getting around on two wheels.
