Christmas Events Around Shawfair

Make the most of this festive season with our top picks of Christmas events happening around Shawfair.

The Brunton Theatre hosts their annual traditional pantomime that is sure to delight all the family. This year it’s the turn of Jack and the Beanstalk, running until Saturday 5th January. Also receiving the festive panto treatment is Aladdin, at National Mining Museum Scotland on Sunday 16th December for one performance only.

Little ones can meet Santa in his Grotto at Carberry Tower Mansion where they will enjoy activities with the elves, posting their letter to the North Pole and receiving a gift from Santa himself. Or, for a special meal, Dobbies are hosting a choice of Breakfast or Tea with Santa, which also includes activities and a gift.

You are spoiled for choice at Dalkeith Country Park this Christmas. Events include a Pop Up Festive Foodies Market every weekend in December, a Christmas Choirs & Music Weekend on the 8th and 9th December and a Santa Fun Run on Sunday 16th December to raise money for CHAS (Children’s Hospices Across Scotland). Hobo Cinema will be there on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd with a selection of Christmas classics including The Snowman, Home Alone and It’s a Wonderful Life.

For the creative among us, the Wreath Making Workshop at National Mining Museum Scotland on Wednesday 12th December is sure to be a treat. Tickets include all the materials needed and an afternoon tea.

The Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre hosts their Christmas Fair on Thursday 13th December featuring a silent disco, carol singing, face painting and many more family friendly activities.

And there’s no need for your four-legged friend to miss out on all the fun – Dobbies are hosting a Santa’s Doggy Grotto for the family members who are always ‘good boys’.
