Danderhall Primary School student, Georgia Conlon, takes home top poster prize

Shawfair LLP, the developers of Shawfair, met with the P6 students of Danderhall Primary School in May to discuss the idea of ‘what community means?’ The interactive session saw the class engage with fun activities that brought alive the concept of ‘community’ and asked the children to consider how developers go about building a new town.

As the largest urban expansion project in Edinburgh and Midlothian, Shawfair will revitalise the south east wedge of the city, delivering 4,000 new homes, business space, public amenities and landscaped environment around a new town centre and railway station. The children were asked to contemplate all of these elements and to draw their idea of what a new community might look like.

The winners were announced at the school assembly on Friday 26 June. The day’s big winner was Georgia Conlon, who won a Kindle e-reader and family tickets to Edinburgh zoo.

The runners up, who all took home family tickets to Edinburgh zoo, were:

  • Leyla MacDonald
  • Connor Quin
  • Tony Bain
  • Becca Forrest
  • Josh Mackie

A donation from Shawfair LLP was also made to Danderhall Primary School to go towards building a new community garden where the students can learn outside during the warmer months.
