Midlothian Science Festival is back

Midlothian Science Festival returns this October with a programme of events for all ages. Science, engineering and technology are embedded in Midlothian’s cultural identity – from the coal mines of the past to Dolly the sheep and the pioneering work of the Roslin Institute, so where better to get involved and get inspired. Here are some of our top picks:

Science Alive: The opening gala day at Lasswade Centre on the 6th October has fun experiments for all ages.

Fantastic Physics of Fire Show: A family show full of explosions, rockets and dramatic demonstrations. 16th October in Danderhall Leisure Centre.

Hackathon: For kids aged 8 – 16 years to design their own football game while learning about coding and how technology can create training aids for footballers. 16th October in Newbattle Library

Dark Skies and Bright Stars: Join scientists and engineers from the Royal Observatory Edinburgh to learn about the night sky and astronomical features that are visible to the naked eye. All ages welcome, 17th October at the Secret Herb Garden.

Sustainable Midlothian: Midlothian Council, Heriot Watt University and Bangor University will lead a discussion about what sustainability means and how to achieve it. For adults, 18th October in Dalkeith Art Centre.
