About Us

Shawfair is an ambitious new development to the south-east of Edinburgh

Who Are We

Shawfair LLP is a joint venture between property developer, Buccleuch Property, and house builder, Mactaggart & Mickel. The partnership is committed to bringing Shawfair to life, and introducing the largest urban expansion programme to date for Edinburgh and Midlothian.

Buccleuch Property

Buccleuch Property represents the commercial property interests of the wider Buccleuch Group. The core of its business operates in the investment and development markets, together with significant interests in the strategic land and residential sectors. Buccleuch have had major land interests in the surrounding area for hundreds of years, and an active involvement in the project since 2002.

Mactaggart & Mickel

Mactaggart & Mickel has been handcrafting homes since 1925 and is a multi-award winning family-owned group of companies with divisions in timber systems, contracts, commercial property and strategic land.  The company is active across central Scotland, from Edinburgh to Glasgow and the Ayrshire Coast. Mactaggart & Mickel has a long-term involvement in the Shawfair project and is committed to its successful delivery.

Midlothian Council

Midlothian Council looks after six wards (areas), including 19 towns and villages and 85,000 people. The Council itself is made up of 18 locally-elected councillors covering the six wards. Less than 10 miles south of Edinburgh city centre, Midlothian is steeped in history with diverse historical buildings and picturesque villages. We're bordered by Edinburgh, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders.

City of Edinburgh Council

Based in Scotland's capital city, the Council provides a range of public services to over 444,000 citizens and promotes the city worldwide.

Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation

We can only create a better, healthier, safer future if we have the right people, ideas, technology and resources collaborating to make it happen. At the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, we bring low carbon leaders and practitioners from business, finance and the public sector together to turn good ideas into reality. Finding, funding and supporting potential smart projects across Scotland with the ERDF Smart Accelerator partnership.

Shawfair Park

Adjacent to the new Shawfair expansion, this established park provides easy access to national and local road/rail networks and immediate proximity to the new Borders Railway at Shawfair station.

Borders Railway

With over 30 miles of track, the new Borders Railway will connect Edinburgh and Tweedbank in the borders. With trains running every half hour, Shawfair station will allow for an easy commute of roughly 15 minutes into Edinburgh city centre. It is estimated that the Borders Rail project will generate significant benefits for the Scottish economy, boosting local tourism and businesses.
